Struggling with a quiet 2G iPhone? Want to make it 40% louder? Then read on.

Bejeweled Blitz is one of the only two Facebook games I can honestly say I’m addicted to, and today I stumbled upon a bejeweled blitz cheat that will have you topping your friends’ leaderboard immediately.

As a fan of the game I find cheating quite unappealing as the fun is in the challenge and this bejeweled blitz cheat takes all of the skill away. However, there is a part to this cheat that I find excellent as it switches the clock from 60 seconds to 60 minutes – giving you an entire hour of playing time to really enjoy the game.

The cheat utilises a built in function in the game, left in by the developers for testing purposes and once activated, brings up a hidden toolbar that enables you to:

• Activate time hack
• Deactivate time hack
• Increase score multiplier

The cheat I use is ‘Activate time hack’, as this gives me as much time as I like to practice.

Using the keyboard and mouse, you also gain the following functions, simply hold down these keys and select the gem(s) you wish to edit:

• Shift+Click – turn gem into a Power Gem
• Ctrl+Click – turn gem into a Score Multiplier Gem
• Alt+Click – turn gem into a Hyper Gem
• 1..7+Click – turn gem into a gem of the respective color

One thing I hated about being a corporate lawyer at Wilson Sonsini back in the day – we got to work on really cool deals (the last deal I worked on before leaving for a startup was the AOL/Netscape merger), but we were only brought in at the very end to paper everything. We fought over the fine print in the contracts after the meat of the deal was ironed out by CEOs. Skinning and dressing whatever the hunters bring back to the cave is fine for some people. But it’s not exactly being in the middle of the action.

PR firms today aren’t much different than corporate lawyers. They are paid to perform a service. They like to think of themselves as core to the strategic action of their clients. But more often, they’re just there to spin whatever happened in the most favorable light possible. Then they smile and dial and pray for coverage. Occasionally they are called in to smother a story, which is mildly more exciting, I imagine. But when a CEO is wondering what she should do next to drive her business forward, she generally doesn’t call her PR firm for advice. Or at least I hope she doesn’t.

PR firms are apparently just as frustrated by always being in the back seat as the law firms are.

I’m fascinated by Clair Cain Miller’s article in the New York Times today about PR in general and the birth of a startup, Wordnik, specifically.

Forget the tech blogs, said investor Roger McNamee. Brew PR head Brooke Hammerling instantly acquiesced, and decided to go with a sort of guerrilla approach instead by “whispering” into the ears of prominent Twitter users like Kevin Rose, Jay Adelson and Jason Calacanis. CNET was also given the story, but it managed to eek out only a single comment.

Ms. Hammerling, while popping green apple Jolly Ranchers into her mouth, suggests a press tour that includes briefing bloggers at influential geek sites like TechCrunch, All Things Digital and GigaOM.

But Roger McNamee, a prominent tech investor who is backing Wordnik, is also in the room, and a look of exasperation passes across his face at the mere mention of the sites.

“Why shouldn’t we avoid them? They’re cynical,” he says, also noting his concern that Wordnik would probably appeal more to wordsmiths than followers of tech blogs. “That’s where I would be most uncomfortable. They don’t know the difference between ‘they’re’ and ‘there.’ ”

Without missing a beat, Ms. Hammerling changes course, instantly agreeing with Mr. McNamee’s take. “I love you for that,” she intones. “I’ll leave the tech blogs out. Let them come to me.”

Instead, she decides that she will “whisper in the ears” of Silicon Valley’s Who’s Who — the entrepreneurs behind tech’s hottest start-ups, including Jay Adelson, the chief executive of Digg; Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter; and Jason Calacanis, the founder of Mahalo.

The result? Not much. Wordnik is flatlining at an abysmal amount of traffic. Comscore and Quantcast don’t even register the site as a blip.

Compare Wordnik to Topsy, another recently launch service. Topsy launched on TechCrunch exclusively. The domain now has 577,000 results on Google, compared to 56,000 for Wordnik. And the traffic difference is stunning:

I’d say this experiment in a pure social media launch failed.

The article goes on for pages describing Hammerling’s incredible networking skills and propensity to namedrop at every opportunity.

Ms. Hammerling’s connections have been crucial for Brew in finding and serving clients, says Ms. Cook, her business partner: “Without question, that allows us to play at a different level, because we’re not just doing P.R. and media relations; we’re connecting people at the highest level, helping deals get done.”

I know Brooke well. I guess you could say I’m one of her many thousands of “very close friends.” And I don’t dispute that she is well connected, or that those connections help her get clients.

I believe Brooke’s client have been better served if she stood up to McNamee and told him that Wordnik would have had a better launch if they hadn’t ignored the blogs that are interested in covering new startups. Instead she became a “yes woman” and told McNamee exactly what he wanted to hear.

Hammerling and her peers in the industry should help guide their clients through the minefield of journalists and bloggers, rather than simply avoid it entirely out of fear or ignorance. She isn’t in the room to drop names or “help get deals done.” She’s there to make sure the client’s news gets spread appropriately. In that they failed miserably, and the client suffered.

As cool as Kevin Rose is (and he did apparently Twitter that Wordnik was “truly amazing”), this is not a launch strategy.

The UK’s Telegraph ran an article recently with a headline stating “Overheating iPhone 3GS: Apple blames the weather”… that could be a tad misleading. The Telegraph cites an Apple knowledge base article, last updated June 25, 2009, that warns about leaving the iPhone 3GS in hot places or using it under hot conditions, and shows a screenshot of the iPhone’s temperate warning screen,

The problem is, as longtime TiPb readers know, it’s the same knowledge base article that’s been up since the introduction of the iPhone 3G in 2008, the update merely adding in the newly launched iPhone 3GS.

So, while the iPhone 3GS may indeed have overheating problems — though we’re not experiencing any yet — saying Apple blames the issue on heating is, as mentioned, a tad misleading.

In any event, we’re more interested in whether or not our readers are experiencing iPhone 3GS overheating issues, and if so, what are you doing on the device when you experience them, and are you running a jailbroken device?

I’ve been hesitant to spend the money on an IM client, but IM+ won me over with the integration of Twitter push. Now, I’m not going to say that IM+ perfectly pushes Twitter, because it doesn’t, but it’s an impressive first attempt. Every direct message and @ mention gets pushed to me 1 to 4 minutes after it was sent. Every once in awhile some random tweet gets pushed through as well, but not often. What about normal IM? My photographic aspirations far exceed my talents, and while my experiments at iPhone 3GS HDR are still resulting in misaligned ghost worlds, my iPhone 3GS panoramas have taken a step towards… well, if not the better, at least the easier. Previously, I would take my shots and bring them into Photoshop to assemble a pano. Now, I just use Autostich right on the iPhone, and the results have been excellent. You are a blimp pilot. A war veteran, who wants to live the rest of your life in quiet and peace. Working your day job on a trading planet, everything seems to be ok. Suddenly the planet is assaulted by an evil empire. Your blimp is upgraded with bombs and you are going to save the planet…

The game revolves around piloting a blimp through 20 “action packed” levels. Your tasks begin with simple transport but later escalate to saving friends, protecting other blimps, guerrilla attacks and more.

All of you with a nice shiny iPhone 3G S should be grateful for the news that an exploit has been found in the 3G S software. This will mean that in the near future it will be possible to unlock the iPhone 3G S

The exploit, known as the 24Kpwn, was first discovered in the iPhone 2G, but seems to have been overlooked by Apple as they have again built it into the latest iPhone model. As this exploit has been used before, it surely won’t be long before we can unlock our iPhone 3G S using ultrasn0w.

Apple are usually very quick to close these exploits, and have already shut a few doors they left open in the 3G S, but this exploit remains in the version that everyone has now, so there is no way Apple can fix this one without forcing a software update.

So, if you are waiting to unlock your iPhone 3G S, the wait is nearly over. Watch this space, and don’t go updating any time soon.

The first ‘adult’ application for the iPhone went on sale on Thursday, but only lasted a few hours. Which is longer than most of it’s users probably could….

The $1.99 app featured pictures of women, some with nudity. Apple opened the doors to this kind of application with the 3.0 OS after it introduced age verification and parental control features in the latest iPhone software. According to the developer, the application had been available since may and had made its way into the top 10 ‘lifestyle’ applications of the store. Once nude content was added, sales rocketed and crashed the server hosting the images.

On June 25, 2009, Jackson collapsed at a rented home in Holmby Hills in Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by his personal physician were unsuccessful.

Resuscitation efforts continued both en route to the UCLA Medical Center, and for an hour further after arriving at approximately 1:14 pm (20:14 UTC). He was noted to have already been in cardiac arrest by the paramedics who attended his house. Jackson was announced dead at about 2:26 pm local time (21:26 UTC). Many news organizations were generally very cautious about the initial reports of his death.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The case was transferred to the Los Angeles County Coroner for investigation. There has been speculation that Michael Jackson committed suicide, was murdered, accidentily overdosed on painkiller medication, or just suffered a tragic cardiac arrest from stress/illness.

The autopsy was scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2009. A final verdict on Michael Jackson’s autopsy will only be possible after the toxicology test results are confirmed.

In the hours following Jackson’s death, his record sales increased dramatically. His album Thriller climbed to number one on the American iTunes music chart, while another eight have made it into the top 40. In the UK, where Jackson would have performed in less than three weeks, his albums occupied 14 of the top 20 places on the Amazon.co.uk sales chart with Off The Wall topping the chart. Nine of his albums were featured on the American iTunes Top 10 chart, including Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, and 3 compilations. In the UK iTunes store on June 26, thirty-nine of Jackson’s songs were in the Top 100 best selling songs list, in addition to four Jackson 5 songs. Eight of his albums took over the top ten downloaded albums and the top 5 video downloads were all Michael Jackson videos. Along with this he also entered into the top top ten single downloads with “Man in the Mirror”^.

Less than four months before Jackson’s death one of his biographers, Ian Halperin, revealed that Jackson had a secret library of over 100 unreleased songs which he planned to release after his death to support his children.

RIP Michael Jackson, a tragic loss of a genius.
